The Space Behind the Mind

a breathwork & flow-writing retreat

June 27th, 2026, 9am-4pm

Rolling Ridge Retreat Center

North Andover, MA

Breathe into Stillness. Write from the Deep. Unlock your Voice.

There is a place beneath the noise. A pool of images, an open space within. This is not a place we can access with striving or urgency. This is something older, steadier; a place that waits patiently for you just beyond the thinking mind.

Most of us don’t spend much time there.

We live instead in loops of analysis, self-doubt, and trying to get it right. We circle the same questions, the same patterns, the same stuck places. We sense there is something truer beneath it all, but we don’t always know how to reach it.

This day is an invitation to cross that threshold in a safe and grounded community.

What this retreat offers

The Space Behind the Mind is a one-day immersive retreat designed to help you access a deeper layer of awareness, where your voice is clearer, your body is more regulated, and your creativity can move freely again.

Together, we’ll work at the intersection of breath and language.

  • Breathwork (with Erin Browning) to gently shift the state of the nervous system, release stored tension, and create the internal conditions for clarity and insight

  • Flow-writing practices (with Alix Klingenberg) to bypass the inner critic and listen for what is already waiting to be said

  • Spacious time for integration, reflection, and forest walking

  • A small, thoughtfully held group (max 20 participants)

  • lunch and snacks are included!

This is not about producing something polished, it’s about making contact with yourself, your body, your voice, and the creativity that has been waiting just beneath the surface.

Your Retreat Hosts

Erin Browning is a breathwork practitioner and speech pathologist whose work centers on the connection between breath, voice, and the nervous system. She helps people release what has been held in the body and rediscover a more grounded, open way of being.

Alix Klingenberg is a poet, spiritual director, and creative guide. Her work invites people into deeper relationship with their inner world through language, image, and attention—helping them access the voice that exists beyond performance or expectation.

There is a quality of work that can be only be done when we really give ourselves over to it. Retreats are amazing for opening new creative doors and for going deeper than you can go on your own.

If you’re feeling creatively depleted, restless, or in need of new friends and colleagues who care about the world the way that you do, consider giving yourself this gift.

What you might experience

Participants often find that when breath and writing are brought together in this way, something begins to shift.

  • A loosening of mental loops or stuck narratives

  • A deeper sense of calm and internal spaciousness

  • Unexpected clarity about a creative or personal question

  • Language that feels more true, more alive, more yours

  • A renewed connection to intuition and inner knowing

You don’t need to be a “writer” to attend.
You don’t need prior experience with breathwork.

You only need a willingness to listen.

This is a smaller retreat with space for just 20 participants so if you’re called to it, don’t wait to sign up! (Previous retreats have sold out within a couple days of launching)
