Here is a sample of things to come! August has been so wonderful and has flown by incredibly fast.

I haven’t done a family shoot in quite a long time, but man is it fun.  Austin is a good friend of mine from college (it’s been an Oberlin-infused month!) so when Angela wrote me to ask if I could take photos of their newest family member, I was so excited.  Frank is 4 months old to the day in these pics and one of the happiest babies I’ve seen.

It’s hard to describe Rebecca & Steven ; they are just too wonderful for words.  Rebecca and I went to college together at Oberlin but never knew each other. We should have. I flew to Denver, rented a car and drove to what can only be described as the middle of nowhere… in the mountains.   No cell phone reception and no internet. I tried not to panic.  Luckily for me Wild Basin is one of the most gorgeous venues I’ve ever seen and the people I got to share the experience with are ones I hope to know for a long time to come.

Sarah & Dan had a simple church ceremony followed by a delightfully casual backyard reception.  The food was incredible and the atmosphere was full of love and family. Also, how awesome are Sarah’s flipflops?

Congratulations to Melissa and Max for winning my wedding photography contest!  I got such an amazing vibe from them and their environmentally friendly plans make me so happy.  Here is what their wedding is all about:

  • We are going to do everything outside in a huge meadow we have on our property, and the goal is to have it look a little like people have stumbled upon a fairy land in the woods, lots of candles and lights hanging in the trees, maybe Swiss Family Robinson lives there type of setting
  • The main focus of the outdoor school where we work is sustainability and so we are planning on incorporating that theme as much as possible
  • The facility is built green (straw bale insulation, solar panels, radiant floor heating, wheat walls, newspaper insulation, fly ash, adobe, awesomeness)
  • We are getting our food from the farmers market (mainly vegetarian dishes at this point)
  • We’re growing the flowers in our organic teaching garden
  • The place cards, center pieces and cake stands will all be made from wood we have around camp
  • My dress is vintage from the 50′s
  • The beer and wine will all be local
  • The favors are reusable bags
  • We have wild turkeys and deer all over the place (and owls at night) and we also have 4 pet chickens (they may be the flower girl)
  • We’re registering for a honeymoon instead of more stuff
  • There is a good chance we’ll be barefoot (that’s not necessarily sustainable, but Max thought I should add it to the list)”

I couldn’t be more excited!!!  *swoons

Thanks so much to everyone that entered.  This choice was so difficult and overwhelming due to the amazing entries I received.

Cheers,
